If you have been to the BVI before you have undoubtedly tasted a frozen delicacy – The Painkiller.

 

Pussers RumThe Painkiller is the signature rum cocktail trademarked by Pusser’s Rum. The popular island drink is made with a blend of Pusser’s dark rum, pineapple juice, cream of coconut and orange juice served over ice with grated fresh nutmeg on top.

British Navy Pusser’s Rum is the same blend of five West Indian rums as issued on board British warships from 1655 – 1970, and it is with the Admiralty’s blessing and approval that Pusser’s is now available to the public since 1980.

Life on the high seas was rough and the daily ration of rum was the highlight of a seamans day. Today got rum would seem to be the proverbial answer to any and everything that ails you in the tropics.

 

 

 

Now any self respecting bartender in the BVI can make you a Painkiller but… the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke has made the drink famous, or, is it the other way around? They claim to have invented the drink back in the 1970’s. The recipe is the same but the proportions are secret – premium dark Rum, Cream of Coconut, Pineapple and Orange Juice topped with freshly grated Nutmeg.
