One of my favorite boat trips that I took was sailing along the barrier reef from Placencia to Ambergris Caye.
Living and working in the Virgin Islands I am no stranger to the underwater splendor. Belize is blessed with an amazing variety of reefs including the longest barrier reef in the Western hemisphere. The reef not only provides a magnificent aquarium for every snorkeler and diver but protection from the large ocean swells. This makes a very comfortable experience for even the first time sailor.
From the first time I jumped in the water I was amazed at how pristine the reefs were and the amount of fish there were. As we sailed up the barrier reef we stopped at almost every little atoll or island we came across and plunged into the water. One thing that we noticed immediately was the size of the fish. There were the same varieties as we have here in the BVI just bigger. Obviously a product of a healthy eco-system.
For those of you who have sailed the Virgin Islands or the Bahamas, you will find Belize a truly unique experience. You will not find busy anchorages but instead, you will find unspoiled beaches free from cruise ship passengers with a stunning backdrop of the sea surrounding them.
Belize is the only English speaking country in Central American located on the Caribbean coast between Mexico and Guatemala.

For a smaller group the luxury catamaran GAZELLE, with three double cabins, each with en-suite bathrooms, dining for 6 in the spacious cockpit or salon, Gazelle is the perfect yacht to use as your base for exploring these beautiful islands. Gazelle is a custom build Gunboat 66. Gunboats are built for transiting the worlds oceans. Built as race boats, they go far beyond any cruising boat standards. They have many water sport toys on board for those inclined to try their hand at water skiing, wind surfing and knee boarding.
Legacy is $30,800 for 12 guests and are available year round in Belize.
