Beautiful Behemoths of The Antigua Yacht Show

After showing us the cinema, the steam room and the spa, “Our guests love the heated onyx floor in the his and hers master bathrooms” articulated the chief stewardess as she led us around the five decks of the motor yacht Eminence. On another megayacht – with the push of a button – a balcony lowers, the safety barrier folds up and the glass doors open. Your morning coffee will be delivered. What is not to love? Five-star service in sumptuous surroundings. And that is before you take in the panoramic seascapes or the constellations above.

A jacuzzi on the fly bridge here, a baby grand piano there and sometimes up to 3 tenders among the various toys in the garage usually behind the lowest deck often named the beach club.  A Chihuly chandelier here and a Renoir there, were just two high-profile pieces among the museum quality artwork and statuary from around the globe adorning the superyachts on display.

The Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Falmouth Harbour Marina and the historic Nelsons Dockyard in English Harbour accommodated the attending yachts at the Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Many mega yachts had arrived from the Mediterranean for the Winter season. Other exhibitors in the yacht fleet were from the Bahamas and St Maarten also included sailing yachts, motor yachts and multihulls.

Crewed Yacht Charters BVI and Beyond

In the Caribbean island chain, Antigua is just a puddle jump (or two) away from the BVI making it easy for Regency Brokers to attend without jetlag. No need for the gym, which is available on many boats, sometimes with a trainer, because over the 4 full viewing days, we maintained a daily average of 10,000 steps and 23 flights of stairs! Passerelles to board, up, down and around spiral staircases and on the superyachts, intermittently, taking it easy in the elevator.

The diversity of color palates used by the various designers married the luxurious visual aesthetics with the functional practicalities of living aboard. The plethora of woods; among them cherry, mahogany, teak and walnut integrated warmth in the design. Distinctively evident on the Feadships was the remarkable seamless quality of wood joinery. Abundant textured hues flourished, from silk carpets to carved stone, etched wood, woven leather, marble and naturally, braided line.

The largest sailing yacht (283 feet) on the dock was S/V Aquijo. This high-performance aluminum ketch can be your vacation destination. The modern sophisticated interior has the design flexibility for any group of 12 guests.

Four days of fabulous viewing really was a wonderland. The 122 ft motor yacht “Wonderland” has an Alice in Wonderland theme through-out. Not over the top, just enough to pique your interest with some fascinating artwork and details to match. The dining table center piece featured a black top hat with a silver rabbit perched atop. It appears I have fallen down the rabbit hole now – being back in the British Virgin Islands in the Regency Vacations office. Right here waiting for your call about chartering any of the magnificent vessels available and can help you plan to experience a luxury yacht charter. Indulge yourself, you deserve it.
